Our Head Coach, Chris Abel, retained his title in the under 73Kg category at the B.J.C. (M.A.C.) Anglia Open Championships this weekend. In his first contest, after gaining one of each of the minor scores, he eventually threw his opponent for the full Ippon (10 point) score. His second contest was a bit tougher, going to the time limit, winning with a Yoko (5 point) score. Following this was a quick contest won with a strangle. He then finished off the pool round with an Ippon, qualifying for the next round as the pool winner. Chris then made quick work of his semi-final opponent with another strangle, setting up a final with an old rival. After an early Koka (3 point) score he managed to hold off the attacks going to the full time again to win gold. Also in attendance from the club was Charles Swabey, who, in his group of the Under Yellow Belts section won a Silver. After a few attacks, he was unfortunately thrown and lost his first contest. Not letting this get to him, he kept going and won the following two. His final opponent had also won 2 and lost 1, meaning the winner would gain the silver. After getting him to the floor, Charles quickly moved to get the hold, keeping there for the required 20 seconds for the win to get Silver. |

Chris Abel made it 3 out of 3 at the weekend after winning another Gold in the Under 73Kg category of the B.J.C. (M.A.C.) Eastern Region Open Championships. Once again, Charles Swabey was also there for the club. In his group of the Under Yellow belts Charles improved on previous performances and achieved his first Gold of the year. In addition, Sophie Butler joined the usual two. As the lowest grade in her category, the Under 44Kg, it was going to be hard. None the less, she battled through and was rewarded with a Silver. |

| Chris Abel has done it again. For the fourth time this year Chris has taken yet another title. Following on from the success of previous events, he has added the under 73Kg category at the B.J.C. (M.A.C.) Anglia Region Closed Championships to the ever growing list of gold medals. This now makes it his most successful year since becoming our Head Coach. Sadly however, Chris was beeten in the Open weight category in the early rounds and didn't achieve a medal this time. |

Chris Abel made it 100% gold at the weekend winning his fifth title of the year. Again in the under 73Kg category, at the B.J.C. (M.A.C.) Anglia Region Invitation Championships. This time Chris was joined by one of our new members, Sasha Ferguson. Narrowly missing out on the gold, she managed to acheived a silver medal in her first event in her group under yellow belt section. This should be the first of many in her judo life. |
